Why Choose Hokie Pokie for Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a form of psychotherapy where play becomes a powerful tool for children to express their feelings, thoughts, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment. At Hokie Pokie Play Therapy, we use play to help children better understand and manage their emotions, navigate difficult situations, and develop social skills. Through this creative process, children can explore their inner world, communicate issues they might not yet have the words for, and work through challenges at their own pace, all while feeling supported and empowered

At Hokie Pokie, we specialise in play therapy for children aged 3 to 17. Our approach supports emotional growth, healing, and wellbeing by creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can express themselves freely.

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate form of counselling for children, where the child has the opportunity to use “play” to process and explore their inner thoughts, worries and feelings.  Play therapy is to children what counseling is to adults; play is a child’s natural medium of expression, which helps children express their feelings more easily through toys instead of words.iption for this block. You can use this space for describing your block.

Check out the below short video from Dr. Dee Ray, briefly explaining what Play Therapy is and how it can benefit your child.

Can my child engage in play therapy at home or school?

Yes! We are a mobile-based business. We can do sessions at home, in school, or in a neutral location.

How long does a session take?

Sessions times vary and are either 45 or 60 minutes each. Bookings allow 15 minutes for note taking and preparation.

What will be available to my child during the session?

Your child will have access to a variety of toys that have been specifically chosen for their therapy session. Some of the toys include creative expression toys (playdough and art based materials), role play toys (dress up), open-ended toys (blocks and building), and sensory toys.
